Looking for a high quality, durable and deep chessboard mold but don't want to use one of our full size chessboard molds? The medium sized, 14.5x14.x5x0.5" chessboard mold is 1/2" deep and features full size 1.5x1.5" squares that are 0.2" in depth. At nearly 3.6lbs in weight, it uses 5X times the amount of silicone used in the common small and thin, Chinese made, chessboard molds found on Amazon or Etsy.
With 1.5x1.5" squares separated by 1/8" lines, both 0.2" in depth, you can create solid, thick squares with ease using alternating resin, concrete or Jesmonite colors. Once your small squares are set, you can then pour an additional layer (which will end up being the base of the chessboard) to solidify all the squares and surrounding border together. The total thickness of the finished cast board is 1/2".
Once you demold this piece, you can leave the separating lines unfilled, fill them with your choice of resin, or sand then flood coat your entire finished chess / checkers board.
We do not currently carry any chess player / chess piece molds. However, our medium sized chessboard mold is appropriately sized to pair with most chess player / chess piece molds from Amazon or Etsy.
Crafted Elements Silicone Molds
The last mold you will ever need. Created just for makers, resin artists and wood workers, these time saving flexible yet durable silicone molds significantly cut down on the setup and demolding time usually involved with other molds. Silicone molds are superior to wood and tuck tape, and HDPE molds because:
They can be used with epoxy resin, resin and wood, concrete, Jesmonite, plaster and more.
They never need assembled, or disassembled. Saving huge amounts of time.
The strength and flexibility of the molds allows you to insert and remove pieces of wood easily.
The corners and edges never need sealed.
When using wood, the wood stays in place, tight in the mold if you cut it 1/16" larger than the width of the mold. Alternatively use our HDPE block kit in conjunction with hand weights or clamps to keep your wood from up in your resin. The HDPE blocks dont stick to set resin and are easily and cleanly removed.
The mold is heat resistant to ~450F. Avoid direct contact with the flame of a torch. Briskly wave your torch or use a heat gun to pop bubbles.
The molds are reusable. However silicone molds do have a finite lifespan when used with epoxy resin, but getting 20-30+ castings out of the mold can be expected when they are properly cared for and a non-silicone based mold release spray is used. The Mann Ease Release 300 and the MG Chemicals 8329 (Amazon) is what we most recommend.
Like HDPE, epoxy resin does not stick to silicone. However, the heat generated by the exothermic reaction and the chemicals in epoxy resin are very harsh to all silicone molds. Additionally, if part of your epoxy has not fully set due to improper mixing, the epoxy can become bonded to the mold. Both of these factors can lead to mold tear out when removing your piece from the mold, leading to pits and tears on the surface of the mold. This is why we a non-silicone based mold release spray is required before each pour. To help prevent tear out and to increase the life of your mold. We use the 'MG Chemicals 8329 Non-Silicone Epoxy Mold Release', 'Mann Ease Release 200' or 'Mann Ease Release 300'. Cooking spray, vaseline, silicone based sprays or sprays designed for urethane or polyester products should NEVER be used. Using a proper, non-silicone based mold release can mean the difference between getting only a couple of uses from your mold to 20, 30 or more.

I made a Minecraft board for my grandson’s birthday. He loved it! I however made the board upside down, but I didn’t give up on it. It wasn’t bad for my first board. Next time I’ll know what not to do.
This mold has really stepped up my chessboard game. The mold is thick, heavy. You can feel the quality. The molds might be priced higher than your average mold. But it's well worth it
I was able to complete the chess board in half the time due to the deepness of the mold as compared to the thin Amazon molds that could take 3-4 days. Very pleased with the outcome!
Don't make the same mistake I did! I spent so much money—$10, $20, $30 at a time—trying to find a mold that actually worked. I should have just started here. These molds are in a league of their own, especially in demold. The professional finish is unmatched, and my products have never looked better.

The best chessboard mold! Of course I bought a total of 4 of the thin flimsy ones and either tore a hole or just ripped in half.
This board from Crafted Elements makes it fun to be as creative as you want. A little pricey but worth every penny. I won't go back to the cheap thins ones ever.

This was the first REAL chessboard I made. I originally purchased a cheap version on Amazon and threw it away after 2 uses. This chessboard mold is the real deal. I've made 4 of them so far and every time I share the video with family and friends, somebody buys it. If you want to impress your chess playing friends... this is the ticket!
Loving the mold. As soon I'm able to I will. Purchase the deeper on so I can include wood and other items. As a Veteran crafting helps me escape from all the craziness going on.
This chess set was so much fun to make - it was a Christmas present for my husband & he loves malachite, ivory and mahogany so I tried to make the board in these colours. He absolutely loves it! I have so many more ideas for more chess boards & can’t wait to make another one! Stunning mold!

I'm on board #3! The red and blue board is being donated for a fundraiser. The blue/black and green/yellow are both being given as Christmas presents. With each board I get better results. There has definitely been a learning curve but each time I demold I'm so excited to see the end product. Now I just need to figure out how to put a wood border around the boards with the limited amount of tools that I have. No table saw to cut wood and no router to make edges. Still working on that aspect.

These are so easy to use and pull out of the mold so smoothly! Recommend getting syringes to make it easier to add/remove epoxy from individual squares to prevent spilling over colors. Quicker cure epoxy works great since each square and then the flooded back are fairly thin so it saves SO much time!
