Looking for a true to life size chess board mold that is deep enough to cast objects in? This massive 18x18" mold is 1.5" deep and features 1.75x1.75" squares that are 0.375" (3/8") in depth. At nearly 8lbs in weight, it uses 10-15 times the amount of silicone used in the common small and thin, Chinese made, chess board molds found on Amazon or Etsy.

With large 1.75x1.75" squares separated by 1/8" lines, both 3/8" in depth, you can create solid, thick squares with ease using alternating resin, concrete or Jesmonite colors. Once your small squares are set, you can then pour an additional layer (which will end up being the base of the chessboard) to solidify all the squares and surrounding border together. This layer is also deep enough to cast objects, or even encapsulate flowers in. The total thickness of the finished cast board with this mold can be up to 1.5".

Once you demold this piece, you can leave the separating lines unfilled, fill them with your choice of resin, or sand then flood coat your entire finished chess / checkers board.

If you are looking for a chess board mold that is just as functional, but don't need the extra depth check out our 19x19x0.5" Chess Board mold with 2" squares that we also offer.

We do not currently carry any chess player / chess piece molds. However, we recommend the large 3D printed chess pieces crafted by Spectra 3D Technologies.

Crafted Elements Silicone Molds

The last mold you will ever need. Created just for makers, resin artists and wood workers, these time saving flexible yet durable silicone molds significantly cut down on the setup and demolding time usually involved with other molds. Silicone molds are superior to wood and tuck tape, and HDPE molds because:

  • They can be used with epoxy resin, resin and wood, concrete, Jesmonite, plaster and more.
  • They never need assembled, or disassembled. Saving huge amounts of time.
  • The strength and flexibility of the molds allows you to insert and remove pieces of wood easily.
  • The corners and edges never need sealed.
  • When using wood, the wood stays in place, tight in the mold if you cut it 1/16" larger than the width of the mold. Alternatively use our HDPE block kit in conjunction with hand weights or clamps to keep your wood from up in your resin. The HDPE blocks dont stick to set resin and are easily and cleanly removed.
  • The mold is heat resistant to ~450F. Avoid direct contact with the flame of a torch. Briskly wave your torch or use a heat gun to pop bubbles.
  • The molds are reusable. However silicone molds do have a finite lifespan when used with epoxy resin, but getting 20-30+ castings out of the mold can be expected when they are properly cared for and a non-silicone based mold release spray is used. The Mann Ease Release 300 and the MG Chemicals 8329 (Amazon) is what we most recommend.
  • Like HDPE, epoxy resin does not stick to silicone. However, the heat generated by the exothermic reaction and the chemicals in epoxy resin are very harsh to all silicone molds. Additionally, if part of your epoxy has not fully set due to improper mixing, the epoxy can become bonded to the mold. Both of these factors can lead to mold tear out when removing your piece from the mold, leading to pits and tears on the surface of the mold. This is why we a non-silicone based mold release spray is required before each pour. To help prevent tear out and to increase the life of your mold. We use the 'MG Chemicals 8329 Non-Silicone Epoxy Mold Release', 'Mann Ease Release 200' or 'Mann Ease Release 300'. Cooking spray, vaseline, silicone based sprays or sprays designed for urethane or polyester products should NEVER be used. Using a proper, non-silicone based mold release can mean the difference between getting only a couple of uses from your mold to 20, 30 or more.

I wish you had the large chess piece molds for the board. No one seems to carry the large molds for the chess pieces. Its very disappointing.

Love this mold! Perfect size for the chess table i envisioned!

This mold is so sturdy and well made. After this initial purchase, I’ve purchased two round molds. Just waiting for the 24” round to come back into stock. Love your products!

This is hands down the best chessboard mold available for preserving flowers in resin. The depth is perfect and the thick sturdy walls prevent any bowing even with deep pours. This is my third casting and every single board has released cleanly and turned out absolutely beautiful. You can tell this mold was designed with serious resin artists in mind and delivers solid construction consistent results and truly professional quality finished pieces. I would not use anything else.

I love the mold

I like it

Wonderful chess board mold

I love the mold....I can tell it is very high quality. Still in planning stages of project.

Excellent quality. Very please with this mold. Shipment and delivery was fast. Satisfied customer here. I'll definitely purchase other products. I can't fail to mention the tutorial videos!! Thank you!!!

I used the 18x18x1.5 full-size chessboard mold with 1.75" squares to create a deep-pour resin chessboard, and I could not be happier with the results. The mold is exceptionally well made and produces very clean, crisp square lines that are perfectly aligned. For a chessboard, precision is everything, and this mold delivers professional-level symmetry and definition. The silicone is thick, durable, and holds its shape extremely well, even during a heavy, deep pour. I poured a substantial amount of resin into this mold, and it remained stable with no bowing or distortion. Despite the board’s size and thickness, demolding was surprisingly smooth. The flexibility of the silicone made removal safe and stress-free without damaging edges or corners. The surface finish that this mold produces is outstanding. The board cured with a naturally glossy, smooth finish that required minimal sanding and finishing work. The finished product looks polished and high-end straight out of the mold, which saves a significant amount of time in post-production. Another feature I really appreciated was the mold depth. The 1.5-inch thickness allows for creative design flexibility, including layered color work and specialty effects, while also creating a strong, sturdy board that feels substantial and luxury-quality once cured. One important thing to note is that this mold requires a large volume of resin and a very level curing surface due to its size and depth. That said, this is expected for a full-size chessboard mold and speaks more to the professional scale of the product rather than being a drawback. Overall, this mold exceeded my expectations. It is ideal for makers who want to create statement or heirloom-quality chessboards. The craftsmanship, durability, and final finish quality make it well worth the investment. I would absolutely purchase this mold again and highly recommend it to serious resin artists and wood/resin hybrid makers.

Great

I love this chessboard mold. It’s thick and sturdy and does not bow a bit.

This is the greatest chessboard mold ever. Thank you so much for making this for us Crafters. My customers are amazed at how beautiful it looks.

Finally!!!! Thank you for an excellent mold! It’s deep enough to actually do something with. I can’t wait to use it!

For a first time using an epoxy mold, I can say this was the best turn out I could've hoped for. The weight of the mold is great and things fit tight. I had minor air bubbles but found using the heat gun was way better than a torch. Love this product and am anxiously waiting to purchase my next one.

The mold is great! I'm currently working on a piece that I added a walnut border to with walnut squares. I like the ability to add a border with wood. Thanks again!

Fantastic quality! Very happy with my purchase.

Loved making this chess board for my brother in law!!! Lord of rings theme!

I am absolutely thrilled with this purchase. Great product. Excellent service.

Great quality! Bigger than i anticipated. Super quick delivery as well. Thanks Crafted Elements!! Great helpful vids on youtube too!

Haven’t used it yet but was hoping for a design that could incorporate wood a little easier.

Bought for a cosmos board. Mold is HUGE!!! Worth ever penny in size and quality. Never disappoints!!!
