This 5x4x3" block mold is perfect for casting items such as flowers, rocks, and other memorabilia into resin up to 3" thick to create functional bookends.

We offer this mold in a LEFT and RIGHT version. These are the same shape, just mirrored. We wanted to give resin artists the option to be able to work from the top when creating both sides of the bookend pair. You can certainly use a single mold (left or right) to create two pieces, just be aware that one of those pieces will have the bottom of the mold as its "front facing side" when the piece is in use, and thus, you have to work backwards. For the greatest control and WYSIWYG functionality, two molds, one left and one right, is most practical if budget allows.

Note that due to the stiffness of the silicone, demolding a piece of this height can be challenging. There are two ways to remove castings from this mold as peeling back the mold significantly will likely result in tearing.

1. Pouring distilled water between the cured resin piece and the interior wall of the mold and moving the water around the resin casting before trying to attempt to remove it from the mold.

2. Using a compressed air hose with a soft (plastic or rubber) gun nozzle end. Insert your air gun in between the casting and the mold wall and scale up the air flow rate until the casting rises from the mold.

Crafted Elements Silicone Molds

The last mold you will ever need. Created just for makers, resin artists and wood workers, these time saving flexible yet durable silicone molds significantly cut down on the setup and demolding time usually involved with other molds. Silicone molds are superior to wood and tuck tape, and HDPE molds because:

  • They can be used with epoxy resin, resin and wood, concrete, Jesmonite, plaster and more.
  • They never need assembled, or disassembled. Saving huge amounts of time.
  • The strength and flexibility of the molds allows you to insert and remove pieces of wood easily.
  • The corners and edges never need sealed.
  • When using wood, the wood stays in place, tight in the mold if you cut it 1/16" larger than the width of the mold. Alternatively use our HDPE block kit in conjunction with hand weights or clamps to keep your wood from up in your resin. The HDPE blocks dont stick to set resin and are easily and cleanly removed.
  • The mold is heat resistant to ~450F. Avoid direct contact with the flame of a torch. Briskly wave your torch or use a heat gun to pop bubbles.
  • The molds are reusable. However silicone molds do have a finite lifespan when used with epoxy resin, but getting 20-30+ castings out of the mold can be expected when they are properly cared for and a non-silicone based mold release spray is used. The Mann Ease Release 300 and the MG Chemicals 8329 (Amazon) is what we most recommend.
  • Like HDPE, epoxy resin does not stick to silicone. However, the heat generated by the exothermic reaction and the chemicals in epoxy resin are very harsh to all silicone molds. Additionally, if part of your epoxy has not fully set due to improper mixing, the epoxy can become bonded to the mold. Both of these factors can lead to mold tear out when removing your piece from the mold, leading to pits and tears on the surface of the mold. This is why we a non-silicone based mold release spray is required before each pour. To help prevent tear out and to increase the life of your mold. We use the 'MG Chemicals 8329 Non-Silicone Epoxy Mold Release', 'Mann Ease Release 200' or 'Mann Ease Release 300'. Cooking spray, vaseline, silicone based sprays or sprays designed for urethane or polyester products should NEVER be used. Using a proper, non-silicone based mold release can mean the difference between getting only a couple of uses from your mold to 20, 30 or more.

Customer photo review of 5x4x3" Bookend Silicone Mold For Epoxy Resin - Style 1 - Deep Casting Mold

BEWARE CHECK ALL THE INSIDES OF YOUR NEW MOLDS FOR FLAWS BEFORE USING!!!! This is my second time buying these bookend molds. The first set made a beautiful products. The second set I purchased was made with a different kind of silicon (more opaque and whiter in color). The interior of the new molds have linear lines running through them that stick out and are not smooth to the touch. I didn’t realize this until after the first time that I used them. You can see in my pictures how clear and pretty the first molds bookends came out while the ones made with the new molds were covered in lines and were not smooth. That’s when I looked inside the molds and saw how badly they were made. I sent these photos to the company and they said there is no way their molds could be made flawed like this and blamed me for doing a pour job mixing and pouring these even though I can easily feel and see the flaws in the mold! My new set of round coaster molds are the same way!!! Terrible terrible customer service!!! This company does not stand behind its product and absolutely does not care if you receive a flawed product. I guess they get too much business to worry about complaints! Unethical businesses are the worst!

I ordered the bookends. The quality of material is good, however, the book ends are not shaped to line up flat to a book or flat surface. Shawn was quick to respond to my email and informed me that "we model glass blocks for that particular mold. The actual glass blocks we use may actually be off a bit and won't sit flush together. There isn’t a way to check anymore since they are bonded to plastic bases." There was not a resolution offered to the problem, so I would just want future purchasers to know in advance before making the investment.
