Our deep tray molds collection was born out of requests from our customers for a thick and durable mold that could be used to create things like cigar trays, rolling trays, coin dishes, small planters for succulents and more. Unlike typical small and thin silicone tray molds, these molds feature substantial 1" wide sidewalls that gives you the ability to integrate live edge wood, or encase small objects right within the side of the tray. The interior tray portion of the finished piece this mold makes is 6" in diameter and 1" deep, allowing it to be fully functional as a dish or tray.
Making a cigar or ashtray? Demold your piece then run rounded channels through the top of it using a router table and appropriate router bit.
Resin artists love these molds because small things can be encased within thick resin walls such as coins, dried flowers, coffee beans, sea shells, marbles, candy, and other knick-knacks that are less than 1" in size.
Note that due to the stiffness of the silicone, demolding a piece of this height can be challenging. There are two ways to remove castings from this mold as peeling back the mold significantly will likely result in tearing.
1. Pouring distilled water between the cured resin piece and the interior wall of the mold and moving the water around the resin casting before trying to attempt to remove it from the mold.
2. Using a compressed air hose with a soft (plastic or rubber) gun nozzle end. Insert your air gun in between the casting and the mold wall and scale up the air flow rate until the casting rises from the mold.
The last mold you will ever need. Created just for makers, resin artists and wood workers, these time saving flexible yet durable silicone molds significantly cut down on the setup and demolding time usually involved with other molds. Silicone molds are superior to wood and tuck tape, and HDPE molds because:
